Strangers Among Us

“Wright’s style is lyrical and lucid. Her characters are rich psychological portraits.”   The Montreal Gazette

“From first page to final sentence, Strangers Among Us holds the reader to the story.”   The Globe and Mail

“Articulate and intense.”   Quill and Quire

Strangers Among Us is the eighth L.R. Wright mystery to feature RCMP Staff Sergeant Karl Alberg.

Eliot Gardener is fourteen years old and he hates living in British Columbia. His hometown is on the other side of the country and he is furious at his parents for moving to this damp, grey province. He feels an anger so deep that it is incomprehensible to him… but he believes himself to be perfectly calm when he raises a machete and slices into his father, his mother, and his sister.

Strangers Among Us presents Karl Alberg with one of his most difficult cases. He knew the Gardeners but he could neither anticipate nor prevent the tragedy. He bears a grim sense of self-blame, which cannot be alleviated, even by the loving attentions of Cassandra Mitchell. The question is not who did this, but why? And Eliot won’t talk to anyone about the horror that replays endlessly in his head.

With the balance and artistry that her readers know well, L.R. Wright has once again created a seamless and mesmerizing novel of suspense.
